Why Profile Pages are Important

Most bloggers don't give their profile page much attention. I didn't either until one day I googled my name and discovered that my blogger profile page was listed above my blogs, well above my blogs. It hadn't even occurred to me that my profile page was being crawled by the search engines.

Since then, I've started to think of my profile page as its own little web site. It is linked to all my blogs and all my blogs link to it. I realised that if someone is searching for me, there's a good chance that they will find me by means of my profile page.

I began to become more interested in profile pages. Often times, they are a quicker way to learn about a blogger than their blog. When I see a profile page, I can usually tell if their blog is something that I would like to read. If I already enjoy their blog, its an easy way to see if they author other blogs, too.

I started to think of how to increase the search engine rating of my profile page. Incoming links is a good way to do this, but who wants to link to profile pages? I often get invitations to exchange links for blogs, but I've never been asked to exchange links to profile pages. I know of a lot of blog directories, but I've never seen a profile page directory.

I hope this directory will be helpful. A link from this blog can help to increase the rating of your profile page, which may also boost your blog's rating. I am also hopeful that people will take up the new sport of profile page surfing from this directory. If this happens, you may also get increased traffic to your listed blogs.

So leave a comment today and get listed in the directory!

Its not easy to leave coments on other people's blog. One does not even know the author, and one does not even really know what the author thinks about, blogs may not eally be the window to the author's thoughtss, though it may relate to the working of the minds.

Help me understand how just posting a comment lists my profile in your directory??

Daniel Thompson said...

Your comment contains a link to your profile page. I just follow that to get all the information I need to list your profile page.

Of course, if your comment isn't linked to your profile page, I need a link to be left with the comment.

Your profile is now listed. Please let me know if that's not what you meant and you were just asking a question.

Thanks for the service. Appreciate the link.

Congratulations.

You are the first person with a nonblogger blog to get listed. You didn't have the kind of profile page that I usually link to, but I found an about page that also works.

Hi, this is a good idea. Blogs are just so diverse just like people. I'm into informational blogs, definitely not the day in the life blogs and young people's ramblings ughh.

Like other people, I hadn't put much thought into my profile page. Thanks for the link and the information.

What a good idea! What if I have 4 blogs? Do they all get listed, or just lil ole me?

Daniel Thompson said...

Only your profile page gets listed. Of course, your profile page has links to all your blogs. I figure that if you have multiple blogs, your profile page becomes even more important. That's one reason I offer this service.

Hi Daniel,

As promised, I have made a post about your profile directory at Profile Directory: Increase traffic to your blog. This I hope will help your profile directory gain in PageRank as the PageRank of that blog is 5.

I have many Blogger accounts, nothing sinister, reasons are given in Using FireFox with Google toolbar for your blogging tasks. So I hope you don't mind adding these profiles to your very useful profile directory:

Peter Chen's profile

Peter Chen's Profile for Blogger account started for Testing Blogger Beta (now New Blogger). The first blog started with this Blogger account was Testing Blogger Beta (now New Blogger) which is still being updated as I conduct various tests with New Blogger features.

Enviroman's profile, used for environmental blogs, the main one of which is Enviroman Says and which you will notice have a meaningful cartoon instead of my photo for the profile photo, plus comments regarding the environment rather than personal details.

Thanks.

Excellent idea. Good thinking. WE would be delighted if you could link our profile.

It would also be good if Blogger could set up a profile for couples who Blog together - as it is there is only the choice to enter one first name, etc...

My name isnt ready to be known. said...

I just started.. but I have alot of views I want people to read and discuss with me..
